About Green Books

arrowView

Green Books is an independent publishing company, whose aim is to inform and inspire the general reader about ecological, spiritual and cultural issues of our time. We publish around twelve new titles each year, and also distribute selected titles from Chelsea Green Publishing Company of White River Junction, Vermont, who publish in the field of sustainable living, including renewable energy, organic gardening and ecological building.

Most of our own books (where the publisher is listed as 'Green Books') are printed on recycled paper: our literary and politics titles usually on Five Seasons 100% Recycled Paper or Five Seasons Stone-White 100% Recycled Paper. The book covers of recent titles are made of 80% recycled materials. Ecology Begins at Home!

Present Activities
Besides publishing around twelve new titles per year, we distribute selected titles from Chelsea Green Publishing Company of White River Junction, Vermont, who specialize in books on renewable energy, organic gardening and ecological building. They also distribute many of our books in the USA and Canada.

We keep in touch with our wide network of friends and contacts, including our authors, fellow Green publishers, booksellers, other Green organisations, and individuals who are thinking and working along the same lines as ourselves.

Working with other organisations
We are in touch with many like-minded organisations, and have co-published books with (amongst others): Resurgence, The Schumacher Society, Common Ground, The Ecology Building Society, The Gaia Foundation, The Gaia Trust, The International Society for Ecology and Culture, The New Economics Foundation, The Right Livelihood Awards Foundation, WWF International, and the European Centre for Ecological and Agricultural Tourism (ECEAT).

The Schumacher Circle
Green Books is one of the seven members of The Schumacher Circle, an informal network set up in 1994 to bring together a number of organisations which owe their existence to, or have been greatly inspired by, the work of E.F. Schumacher. The other members are The Soil Association, Intermediate Technology, The New Economics Foundation, Schumacher College, The Schumacher Society and Resurgence magazine.x close
